What to Expect

Website Design & Development

Below, I walk you through the steps I’ll take to get your website up and running. It’s broken down into 3 simple phases, and I will be in communication with you every step of the way.

Phase 1 - Discovery

This is where we define the what, when, where and most importantly, why.

1 - Free Consultation

  • Prior to meeting

    • If you haven’t yet, it’s helpful to me if you complete this form to the best of your ability; it’s ok if you don’t know everything, just let me know what you do know

    • Check the pricing so that you know what to expect

  • We’ll chat about what you hope to accomplish, how I can help, discuss timing and answer any questions you might have

2 - Estimate Approval

  • Within a week, I’ll send you an estimate with more detailed timing, deliverables and exact pricing.

  • If you wish to move forward, simply sign/approve the estimate. If you need changes or have questions, I’m all ears.

  • 50% of the total price specified is due before work begins. See here for payment options.

Phase 2 - Development

This is where the magic happens; let’s turn those website dreams into reality.

3 - Preparation

typically includes 1 round of revisions

  • There will be a designated Dropbox folder and project dashboard where you can find links, updates and online payment options.

  • I’ll take inventory of the assets, accounts, link urls, copy, etc. that we will need for the site and communicate who needs to provide what and by when.

  • If any third party resources are necessary (ie: a photographer) I’ll loop them in and get them started.

  • Any branding work will be completed in this phase.

  • I’ll design and lay out the site with placeholder assets to give you an overall look and feel for the overall aesthetics.

  • Before moving to the next step, we’ll walk through what we have so far and make a list of revisions for me to change. Once those changes are made, we’ll move to the next step.

4 - Build

typically includes 1 round of revisions

  • Creative assets, and branding obtained from the previous phase are added to site

  • Copywriting, policies and other text is added to site.

  • Design tweaks made if necessary.

  • External accounts and links, like social media, will be wired up and SEO optimized based on plan purchased.

  • Any add-ons purchased will be built and incorporated.

  • Testing is completed iteratively throughout this step to optimize user experience.

  • To close out this phase, we’ll do a final review of the site and I’ll get those changes taken care of.

  • Your remaining balance is due before work I transfer ownership of the site.

  • Once your invoice(s) are paid in full and the final revision changes have been completed, the website is considered complete and no more changes will be made.

Phase 3 - Turnover

You’ll leave this phase with training, confidence and ownership of your new site.

5 - Training and Turnover

  • Whether you prefer a virtual walk-through or a PDF, we’ll get the knowledge transferred in a way that’s best suited to you.

  • I’ll review the contents of any non-website files including what’s stored in the project Dropbox folder with you.

  • Once training and turnover are complete, I will transfer ownership of the website to you.

6 - What’s Next?

  • If your package comes with support or you added on support, we’ll set up plans to move forward with that.

  • Make sure to copy the shared Dropbox folder for the project to your own account as I archive the folder 30 days after project close.

  • Feedback is always welcome and encouraged; it helps me fine-tune my offerings and streamline my process.

  • If you’re planning a big online reveal, please let me know in advance so that I don’t post your shiny new site to my social feeds before you have announced it. Nobody likes spoilers.
